Laura DiNello

Biography     Paintings

Laura DiNello, born in Chicago, Illinois, knew at age five that she wanted to be an artist and had already started drawing.  Her family was first generation Italian consisting of musicians, tailors, and blue-collar workers, all with a strong work ethic.  Laura’s artistic inclinations were discouraged and repressed as she was growing up in favor of more "serious" endeavors.  Her work reflects her background and her family's work habits, which Laura does by keeping a regular 12-hour painting schedule each day.  She has four children and is accomplishing her goal to be a self-taught, self-supporting artist.  Through her own love and passion for art, she continues to perfect her style of drawing, painting, and mosaic artistry. Her mosaic pieces consist of canvas on canvas assemblage that are then varnished perpetuating the illusion of tile mosaic.

Laura's figurative subjects tend to be strong vibrant females that often reflect the various challenges and conflicts that have occurred from her past and in her everyday life.  The music and harlequin pieces are whimsical and take on a personality all their own.  Her career launched during her first show, which was a complete sell-out.

Laura's paintings, mosaics, and mannequins can be found as one of the more prominent collections of artwork in the Grand Bohemian Hotel's permanent collection.
