Artist Statement

My love of collage started with a scrap box of papers from my childhood that my father passed down to me a couple of years ago. It seemed a shame to put all of these memories in a box under my bed,but what does one do with the original hospital bill for their birth and Mom’s graduation cards from nursing school? I decided to find a way to incorporate these papers, notes and cards that my family took great care in saving for me, into a work of art, a "visual quilt."

My first collage titled, "Looking in on Jane" (a portrait of my mother), won "Best of Show" at Orlando Visual Artists League in 2005 and started me on a new artistic journey. My technique has continued to evolve through experimentation with materials and subject matter.
